On this day, 7 March 1980, former Genesis frontman Peter Gabriel played Cardiff’s Sophia Gardens Pavilion with support provided by Random Hold.

Having left Genesis in 1975, Gabriel was experiencing some success as a solo artist plus critical acclaim for both is recording and live performances.

With his third self-titled album being released in May, some of which featured in this performance, including his anti-war song Games Without Frontiers, which had become his highest scoring solo hit peaking at No 4 in the UK Singles chart and features Kate Bush on backing vocals.

The album version of the song includes the line "Whistling tunes we piss on the goons in the jungle" after the second verse and before the second chorus. This was replaced for the single with a more radio-friendly repeat of the line "Whistling tunes we're kissing baboons in the jungle" from the first chorus.
