On this day, 6 March 1981, Pop band Duran Duran played Cardiff’s Top Rank on their first solo UK tour.
Support was provided by then Radio One DJ Paul Burnett.
The band had just released their first single Planet Earth the previous month peaking at No 12 in the UK charts.
The bands previous visit to Cardiff had been in Nov 1980 when they supported Hazel O’Connor.
The band’s self titled first album was to be released in June, finally reaching No 3 in the UK album charts.
