On this Day, July 3 1988, Transvision Vamp played Cardiff's Square Club.
Transvision Vamp were an English band formed in 1986 by Nick Christian Sayer and Wendy James. The band enjoyed much success in the charts in the late 1980s and early 1990s with their pop/punk sound. James, the lead singer and focal-point of the group, attracted media attention with her sexually charged and rebellious image.
The band's third single, "I Want Your Love", with its pop/punk crossover appeal, became their first major hit, topping the Norwegian singles chart, and peaking within the top 10 in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Sweden and Switzerland. Moderate success was achieved with a re-release of "Revolution Baby", which peaked within the top 40 in the UK, Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. Transvision Vamp’s fourth single, "Sister Moon", narrowly missed the UK top 40. The band went on to release 3 studio albums, with total sales reaching 5 million, before disbanding in 1991
Before joining Transvision Vamp, bassist Dave Parsons played in Welsh Punk band The Partisans who were formed in Bridgend, South Wales, but had relocated to London, eventually splitting in 1984. As well as Transvision Vamp, Parsons enjoyed some considerable success as a member of Bush.
