#LetTheMusicPlay
All of us at Keep Cardiff Live are united with the artists, organisations and grassroots venues that make the UK music scene so special. Music is an incredible force; one that brings people of all cultures together in unity.
It is no surprise that the UK music industry has been hit hard by the devastating economic impacts of the Covid-19 global crisis. Today we are showing our support for the #LetTheMusicPlay campaign, and we call upon music lovers in and around Cardiff, as well as across the entire UK to actively provide their support.
Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, 90% of grassroots venues are under threat of closure, and up to 50% of the live music industry workforce is facing unemployment. This is catastrophic news for the scene that we love and support in Cardiff on a daily basis. We therefore urge the British government to support musicians, venues and organisations across the UK.
Grassroots venues need a £50 million cash injection to ensure they do not go out of business. It is heartwarming to see the level of support furnished to the music sectors of Germany, New Zealand and Australia. The UK government must now act.
We encourage all music lovers to add your voices to the debate. Here are two ways you can show your love and support for the live music scene:
1. Contact your local MP and call on them to demand support for the UK music industry: https://members.parliament.uk/FindYourMP
2. Share your support for the UK music industry on social media, using the hashtag: #LetTheMusicPlay
Thank you for the support. Let’s Keep Cardiff Live!
