On this day, 3 Mar 1977, controversial American heavy rocker Ted Nugent played Cardiff’s Capitol Theatre on his Free-For-All UK tour.

Touring to promote his Free-For-All album and the soon to be released third album Cat Scratch Fever, both of which were commercially successful and help establish Nugent as a prominent figure in heavy rock genre.

Nugent he more recent times drew attention for his outspoken conservative political views, as well as his strident advocacy of hunting and gun ownership rights. He is a board member of the National Rifle Association and a strong supporter of the Republican Party.

He has made a number of controversial and threatening statements against advocates of gun control; in one case, the Secret Service investigated him based on comments about President Barack Obama.
