On this day, 17 Feb 1994, Scottish band the Cocteau Twins played Cardiff University.

The group earned critical praise for their distinctive ethereal sound and the soprano vocals of Elizabeth Fraser.

They had previously released their seventh album Four-Calendar Café

It distinguishes itself from the rest of the Twins' catalogue in two major areas: The sound is much more pop-oriented and less ambient than previous works, and vocalist Elizabeth Fraser's lyrics are more intelligible than usual. The album reached a respectable no13 in the UK charts whilst their single "Evangeline" was a moderate hit in several countries.

After nearly 20 years together, the band disbanded in 1997 in part due to issues stemming from the disintegration of Fraser and Guthrie's romantic relationship. In 2005, the band announced that they would reunite to headline Coachella and embark on a world tour but the reunion was cancelled a month later after Fraser refused to perform on stage with Guthrie.
