On this day, 26th Sept 1976, Hawkwind, one of the first Space Rock bands, played the Capitol Theatre Cardiff. Formed in 1969 the band have incorporated many different styles into their music featuring many notable musicians with the most famous being Lemmy, Ginger Baker, Robert Calvert, Nik Turner and Huw Lloyd-Langton with Dave Brock, their leader and founder, their only remaining original member. Guitarist Lloyd-Langton had a brief spell with Welsh rockers Budgie before rejoining Hawkwind.
The bands early live performances featured dancers Stacia and Miss Renee who often performed semi-naked or wearing just body paint plus a light show provided by Liquid Len (who gets name-checked in the Genesis tune 'Battle of Epping Forest' ) and who went on to work with Peter Gabriel and numerous other giant acts.
Earlier in the Summer of 1976 the band played Cardiff Castle as special guests of Status Quo playing Cardiff Castle.
