Rockfield Studios - Mastering Music in Monmouth

Away from the bright lights of city life, Rockfield Studios has welcomed some of the biggest names in music over its 57-year history. The secluded Monmouth-based studio is the birthplace of various chart-topping, world renowned hits including Oasis’ ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’, Dave Edmunds’ ‘I Hear You Knocking’ and several of Motörhead’s first recordings.

Upon opening in 1965, Rockfield Studios became the world’s first residential studio, allowing visiting artists to explore the surrounding rural farmlands, as well as record and master their music. The unique experience that Rockfield offers became an attractive prospect for musicians and brought in some of the biggest names in music during the 20th century. In August 1975, Queen began recording ‘Night At The Opera’ at Rockfield, which went on to become the band’s first ever US Platinum-selling album.

Another notable member of Rockfield’s staggering roster is Oasis, who recorded ‘(What’s the Story) Morning Glory?’ between March and June of 1995. Not only was the record Oasis’s most successful release (22,000,000 sold worldwide), but it transformed Liam and Noel Gallagher from crossover indie act to global rock superstars.

Last month, Keep Cardiff Live showcased Rockfield Collective, a band who featured on FCI Create Vinyl 2020 with their song ‘Struggles’. Rockfield Collective recorded the song at the famous studios, sharing their experiences in the music video. You can check it out below.
