On this day, July 11 1979, American band The Tubes played Cardiff's Sophia Gardens Pavilion supported by The Starjets.
The Tubes are a San Francisco-based band who have released many memorable hits over the years. Their eponymous 1975 debut album included the single "White Punks On Dope" which got to 28 in the UK singles chart, while their 1983 single "She's a Beauty" was a top-10 U.S. hit, and its music video was frequently played in the early days of MTV.
The group's most recent Cardiff appearance was at The Globe in 2016, to a sell-out crowd.
