On this day, 22 Dec 1967, 1967 Richey James Edwards, lyricist and rhythm guitarist with the Manic Street Preachers was born in Blackwood, South Wales.
Known for his dark, politicised and intellectual songwriting which, combined with an enigmatic and eloquent character, assured him cult status, as well as having been cited by some as a leading lyricist of his generation, leading the Cool Cymru.
Edwards disappeared on 1 February 1995, on the day when he and Bradfield were due to fly to the United States on a promotional tour of The Holy Bible.
