Morgan Fisher Vodcast Series - Seven On Sunday

KCL are delighted to announce a forthcoming series of interviews with Morgan Fisher, ace musician, artist, and photographer.

Over the next seven weeks, we’ll be hearing about how (as a school kid!) he scored a number one U.K. hit, in 1968, as keyboardist for The Love Affair with "Everlasting Love", his time spent as the pianist for Mott the Hoople, later playing with Mott and British Lions (with John Fiddler, ex-Medicine Head) establishing his own independent label, Pipe Records, touring with Queen and working with many artists including The Dead Kennedys, Jayne County, Cherry Vanilla, and Yoko Ono

Morgan, now living in Tokyo, still regularly plays sessions and has recently worked with The Handcuffs and Keeley (links at foot of page).

The first episode focuses on the incredible Miniatures compilation series, Morgan’s original brainchild.  Originally released, in 1980, on Cherry Red Records, the now legendary album comprised of 51, one-minute, ‘miniature’ recordings from artists including Robert Wyatt, The Residents, Dave Vanian and  Andy Partridge, Robert Fripp, Quentin Crisp, Ivor Cutler, and many other music luminaries.

Morgan also wrote the sleeve notes for Miniatures, 2020, the third part of the Miniatures trilogy, featuring 124 tracks from artists as diverse as Toyah Wilcox, John Otway, Tom Robinson, Billy Bragg and members of Van der Graaf Generator, The Stranglers, The Blockheads and Adam and the AntsMiniatures, 2020 is released on the 62nd Gramophone Company record label and is currently available from a number of outlets, including Rough Trade (see below).

I recently caught up with and interviewed singer and third year popular and commercial music student Emma Mae. The singer/songwriter is making a name for herself and is gearing up for a new release with her new single ‘Boys in Bands’ coming out on Friday 30th (which you can preorder by clicking here!)

We spoke about how lockdown helped her creativity, what she hopes the future holds for her post pandemic and why you shouldn’t google her name!

Staying in hospital can lead to loneliness, boredom and the feeling of isolation - this has only been emphasised by the Coronavirus pandemic, as hospital visiting restrictions have changed.

Hospital radio, whether live or (in our case) on-demand, can ease anxiety and give a sense of belonging.

Music will also bring back memories, which is especially relevant for those living with dementia.

This project was the brainchild of Steven Davies. He has worked tirelessly to make the project come to fruition and - with the help of University of South Wales (USW) students branding, working on logistics and producing content - it now has.

Steve and Tony of KCL recently caught with James for the latest KCL Vodcast.

It was a very Interesting and Insightful chat.

James Kennedy is a Singer Songwriter, multi-instrumentalist & Producer from South Wales.

Formerly the singer / guitarist in the political Alternative Rock band KYSHERA, Kennedy has been releasing music since 2002 as both a band member and as a solo artist.

With a wildly eclectic back catalogue including noise music, acoustic, prog rock, grunge, MOR, experimental electronic and orchestral music, Kennedy is a unique figure on the modern music scene.
